2022 was a pivotal and unforgettable year. Heidi and I knew that it was time to uproot and relocate our lives to be near our children for the next season of life. At the time of our decision, we had a great church, no grandkids, a beautiful house, many friends, and a community we loved.

It was a step of faith. With faith there is the fear of the uncertainty of the unknown. Yet through prayer and patient testing, we discern and test our feelings and decisions. For a while it was like standing at the open door of an airplane with parachutes on our backs, hesitating for a moment before stepping out.

From the last week of January through the last week of October, we were nomads. We visited churches. We got a 18 foot trailer and travelled. We visited family. We encouraged leaders. I surfed, a lot. We rested, read books, and caught up with friends. Heidi wrote a book. We sold our house (eventually). We sold our car. We resigned from our jobs. We prayed continuously.

Now, we live in Snohomish. We are honored to be serving at New Life Church in Everett. We have two grand-daughters. We see our children weekly. We are looking for a house and a new car. We are making new friends.

It is a step of faith. With faith there is the fear and the uncertainty of the unknown. Will we “succeed”? Will God do something new and great in our new context? Through prayer and patient testing, we will examine our thoughts and decisions, seeking God and depending on Him.

We have this confidence:

  • God is good and He is present
  • God is faithful, and He is at work
  • “Commit your plans to the Lord and they will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3
  • “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion…” Phil 1:6
  • “I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18

The adventure continues for you as well. Keep taking those steps of faith.
